Antique Asian Hand Mirror
Beautiful Asian Hand Mirror in Shades of Green
This antique vanity mirror dates to around 1910 or 1920. The floral scene of peonies and a butterfly are similar to those found on cloisonné vases and jars. The red flower provides color contrast to the multiple shades of green.
The green handle is the perfect ending! At the time the handles were made of Jade or a similar stone called Serpentine that was slightly softer. Each had that beautiful light translucent quality.
The casing is very ornate with artistic work all around the mirror and on the top of the handle. I could find no hall marks or markings but it cleaned nicely with silver creme. The handle is secure and and in good condition as is the metal work on the mirror.
The hand mirror is 8 inches long and 3 7/8 inches in diameter. The mirror is clear and unblemished. I have often seen these hung on the wall as eye catching focal points in a grouping.
